Learning To Report With Mr.McClure
Mr. McClure, editor the York Daily Record. This means that after the newspaper is written, he reads over it to make sure it’s correct. He is like a principal, but instead of working at a school he works for the York Daily Record. He is in charge of 25 different newsrooms. He came to talk to Mrs. Musone’s 3rd grade classroom at Roundtown Elementary School in YOrk, PA. He talked about his job and being a reporter, or journalist.
He shared what equipment reporters use. They use a computer, sometimes use a car with a satellite dish, their notepads, bluetooth, and mobile devices. They eat pizza because it’s faster to eat because it’s not a full meal. They have to eat, but they have to get to work fast.
Good reporters think about makin a news story good. Knowing your audience makes a news story good. A reporter has to know their interests and what’s important to them. A story should have impact. It is exciting to many people.
He found that a lot of news was neutral. Mrs. Musone’s class found a lot of bad news because they looking for bad news. They had bias. When Mrs. Musone’s class looked at news again, they found it was neutral, just like Mr. McClure.
